HKSI Paper 1 study notes: Business Conduct and Client Relations

1 Client classification, suitability and specialist codes

Apply the principles to client scenarios to see what may be exempted and what core duties remain.

Suitability obligation

操守準則 5.2
  • When making a recommendation or solicitation, an intermediary must have reasonable grounds for believing it is suitable for the client. Exam
  • A client naming a product does not automatically remove every duty; consider whether the interaction involved a recommendation or solicitation. Trap

情境題

Find the trigger first—recommendation or solicitation—then assess client information and product risk.

Professional investor status is not a blanket waiver

操守準則第15段
  • PI categories and exemption conditions differ. The label 'PI' does not switch off every conduct requirement. Trap
  • The intermediary must complete the applicable classification, assessment and records, and consider opt-out arrangements. Exam

精確作答

Do not justify an exemption merely by saying 'the client is a PI'. Identify the category, completed steps and specific exempted provision.
